Chappaqua Rocks Out for Haiti's Kids

Chappaqua Rocks Out for Haiti's Kids

Students from Chappaqua Rocks displayed fierce talent at Crash Mansion on March 20 in NYC. But it wasn’t just about being a rock star.

A more serious undertone was the business of doing good works. That’s because this wasn’t just a concert but a fundraiser generating $700 for the children of Haiti through UNICEF.

“It is so important to me to help children affected by this devastating earthquake,” said Janet Angier, director of Chappaqua Rocks, a division of Music in Chappaqua, a full service music school from the eponymous hamlet in Westchester, NY.

Mistress of ceremonies was the international vocalist Laila Salins, a faculty member at Music in Chappaqua. Faculty member Danny Golub with Urban Fetch performed for the standing-room-only crowd followed by 13 bands mixing up original compositions and popular vintage tunes like “I Wanna Be Sedated.”

Joyce Pogge, 15, whose band “April Fate” rocked the house, was thrilled to participate in what was an extension of a school community service project. “I am doing what I love and helping others at the same time,” she said.

A guest speaker was television personality Renee Syler, a mother of two performers, who stressed that although Haiti is no longer in the headlines, the country desperately needs help.
